American Express customers can now pay for products by tweeting purchase hashtags.
Following the launch of its Twitter Sync feature last year, American Express has now introduced a new pay-by-tweet service for its synced customers, which will allow them to pay for items by tweeting hashtags of their purchases, TechCrunch has reported.
The announcement represents an extension of the service offered by the original Twitter Sync feature, whereby Amex customers could receive discounts on purchases by tweeting offer hashtags.
Now, customers can pay for items by tweeting a purchase hashtag and then retweeting a confirmation tweet from Amex within the first 15 minutes of receiving it. Payment for the item will then be taken from the customer’s synced Amex account, before shipment to the synced address commences.
At present, the Twitter payment service is limited to participating merchants in the US. These include several American Express gift cards, along with products from Sony, Amazon, Urban Zen and Xbox 360.
Yesterday (February 11th) the $25 American Express gift card was made available at a price of $15 with the hashtag #BuyAmexGiftCard25.
