Mark Zuckerberg announces new Facebook social search engine.

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has announced a new social search engine under the moniker Graph Search.

The new Graph Search engine is designed to offer Facebook users a new, third way to find information, in addition to its News feed and Timeline. Zuckerberg said that this is not a web search engine, but a search service that allows one to find private information not found in web search.

Graph Search and web search are very different, emphasised Zuckerberg. While web search is aimed at taking a set of keywords and providing the best possible results that match those keywords, Graph Search combines phrases, for example, "my friends in New York who like Jay-Z" to get that set of people, places, photos or other content that has been shared on Facebook.

Another key difference from web search is that all content on Facebook has its own audience, most of which isn't public. However, Zuckerberg says that Graph Search has been created with privacy very much at its core; you can only view content that could already be seen elsewhere on Facebook.?

At present, Facebook’s Graph Search is only available in English. Furthermore, posts and Open Graph actions, for example, song listens, are also unavailable as of yet.
