Gameloft reaffirms support for Android

Promises HD games for the next generation of handsets.

Gameloft has issued a statement reaffirming its support for Google's Android platform.

The publisher has promised to continue releasing games for the current generation of Android handsets, while making richer HD titles for newer models like the Motorola Droid and Sony Ericsson Xperia X10.

"The arrival of this new generation of phones will allow the development of High Definition games that make the most of the technological capacity and the speed of execution offered by the new Android phones," says VP of publishing Gonzague de Vallois.

"Consumers will benefit from a top quality gaming experience."

This may come as a surprise, given that last week, the company's CFO told an investors conference that Gameloft had cut its investment in Android due to disappointment at low sales of its games.

"It is not as neatly done as on the iPhone," said Alexandre de Rochefort. "Google has not been very good to entice customers to actually buy products. On Android nobody is making significant revenue."

Perhaps Google's bigwigs got on the phone after those comments hit the blogosphere...
