Cellufun passes 2m mobile gamers milestone

Social mobile games firm Cellufun says it now has more than two million registered players.
That includes 150,000 new gamers registered in the last few months, thanks in large part to new partnerships with US operators Verizon Wireless, Virgin Mobile and MetroPCS.
Cellufun has also released some stats on how its players are interacting with its stable of online games, which are accessed through mobile browsers rather than downloads.
The company says the average player spends more than seven hours on the community every month, and that its userbase is 55% female, with 25% using smartphones and 75% using lower-spec feature phones.
Although Cellufun started life using an ad-supported model, it's since diversified into virtual item sales too.
"We are the first and only social community and casual gaming company in the world that works on any phone with a data plan that also supports the purchase of virtual goods in any currency from anywhere in the world," says CEO Neil Edwards (pictured).
Edwards was appointed in April, joining Cellufun from his previous role at domain firm dotMobi.
