That's according to stats from Comscore M:Metrics, which show European usage up 16 per cent.
Comscore M:Metrics says photo messaging from phones (MMS) has grown 60 per cent in the US over the past year and 16 per cent in Europe.
Specifically, 23.9 per cent of US mobile users over the age of 13 years sent or received photos or video in April 2008, rising to 27.6 per cent in Europe (France, Germany, Italy, Spain, UK).
US mobile users appear to get particularly MMS happy in the summer months - for the past three years photo messaging rates have been higher than average in July and August.
In Europe, where MMS is more established and the usage trends more even, spikes are observed over the Christmas period.
M:Metrics says photo messaging growth in the US is growing fastest among teens and those older than 35 years. In Europe, the strongest growth is coming from those aged 55 years and older.
