Swisscom launches DVB-H TV service

Swisscom has launched a DVB-H mobile TV service called Bluewin TV mobile.

The operator worked with Nokia and Nokia Siemens Networks to set up the service in time for the Euro 2008 football tournament, which is hosted in Swtizerland and Austria this summer. The team will now provide customers with a range of subscription plans on TV-enabled Nokia N77 devices.

Bluewin delivers 20 channels, including SF1, TSR1 and Eurosport. Swisscom claims it will reach 44 per cent of the Swiss population, mostly in the area of Basel, Berne, Geneva, Zurich and Lausanne. Customers outside the DVB-H coverage area or without DVB-H handsets can receive Bluewin TV mobile on the Vodafone live! portal using 3G or EDGE.

Nokia and Nokia Siemens Networks is working with more than 30 operators worldwide on DVB-H implementations. Commercial launches include Finland, India, Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam and Indonesia.
