MEF: Biz only makes a quarter of content users happy

Could do better – a lot better. That was the general consensus at MEM as the MEF revealed that just 26 per cent of UK and US users are satisfied with mobile entertainment services.

Findings from the MEF’s Quality of Experience initiative led by members LCC and Zandan, showed consumers’ frustration at the user experience of mobile content. Even the highest satisfaction rates (mobile TV in the American market at 37 per cent, music downloads in the UK at 32 per cent) are low.

More encouragingly the survey revealed over 80 per cent are aware of the different types of mobile entertainment available and that 50 per rated themselves as very likely or likely to buy these products.

Patrick Parodi, chair of the MEF, said: “We’ve achieved some great things, but this shows how much work there is to do. The industry has to work towards common standards and better business models if we’re to keep growing.”

Almost 3000 consumers were questioned on a full cross section mobile entertainment including ringtones, mobile TV, mobile video clips, mobile information services, mobile chat, wallpapers, logos, full track music downloads and mobile games. Additional countries being assessed will include France, Germany, Italy, Romania, Spain and Singapore.
