The BBC has appointed a controller of mobile as it steps up its commitment to the sector.
Matthew Postgate has specific responsibility for coordinating the Corporation's public service presence across wireless plaforms.
Before joining the BBC in 2003 as an executive producer, Postgate worked as an emerging channel strategist at digital consultancy Rufus Leonard, working with the likes of Royal Mail Group, Shell, QinetiQ and BT.
Ashley Highfield, the BBC's director of future media and technology, said: "Mobile is an increasingly important area for us and a key part of our multi-platform strategy. Matthew brings a wealth of knowledge to the role and will drive the BBC's continued success in this field."
The BBC has just commenced a one year trial of its mobile TV services with Orange, 3 and Vodafone in the UK, including simulcasts of BBC One, BBC Three and BBC News 24.
The Corporation's WAP offering generates more than 80 million page views a month.
