Collection tins and posters for the Royal British Legion encourage donators to tap a poppy for poppy day.

Proxama - one of ME's Top 50 Mobile Innovators - has teamed up with m-Commerce payment and marketing platform Paythru, to introduce NFC (near field communication) into the 2013 Poppy Appeal.

The campaign will allow people wishing to donate to ‘tap the poppy’ on collection tins and posters to donate in a new secure and easy way.

Claire Rowcliffe, Midlands regional fundraising manager for the Royal British Legion, said: “It is great to be working with Proxama and Paythru on the Poppy Appeal. Their support to the Royal British Legion is invaluable and will enable people to donate easily with their smartphones.”

QR codes are also available for those with non-NFC devices, ensuring that everyone is able to donate to the Poppy Appeal via their smartphone.

5,000 media assest are expected to be activated on the London Underground with NFC by 2014, thanks to Proxama and CBS Outdoors.

This year the Royal British Legion is aiming to raise £37 million, with every poppy sold helping to support the British Armed Forces past and present.

Neil Garner, CEO and Founder or Proxama, commented: “With people on the move so much, carrying loose change isn’t something we all do. By enabling people to donate through their smartphone, which we rarely leave home without, it makes the process easier and more convenient, whilst benefiting important charities.”
