Partners with ViVOtech to deliver NFC payments in US project.

The deal means customers of participating banks will be able to turn their handset into a mobile wallet (linked to bank accounts, credit and debit cards) and purchase items using contactless readers at selected merchants. They can also transfer money, and receive coupons.

ViVOtech’s software allows data to be remotely loaded onto a secure chip n an NFC-enabled phone, SIM card or microSD card.

The project is yet another advancement of the NFC cause, which is certainly gaining momentum now.

Last month, AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile announced the Isis initiative to promote the tech to US users.

Lisa Stanton, Monitise's executive director of global alliances, said, “We pride ourselves on being at the forefront of mobile financial management and contactless payments.

"Combining the power of ViVOtech’s software with our technology platform will ensure that we continue to deliver what the banks and their customers are looking for.”

To date, ViVOtech software has been used in more than 30 NFC phone pilot projects around the globe.
