32.67 per cent of total e-commerce traffic came from smartphones.

If any brands had doubts about the importance of optimising a website for mobile, then m-commerce provider, Branding Brand’s mobile commerce index will certainly banish them.

The index reveals that overall sales on Thanksgiving via a mobile-optimised site was up 258 per cent from the year before.

This was a total of around 7.3 million visitors, with 32.68 per cent from Android and 66.92 per cent from iOS.

Those visitors piled up just over 46 million page views, 117,850 orders with an average value of $92.55 and accounting for 32.67 per cent of total e-commerce.

Compared to mobile sales on the same day in 2012, page views increased by 102.62 per cent, with the average order value growing by 15.71 per cent, and the number of visits shooting up 68.66 per cent.

Chris Mason, CEO and cofounder of Branding Brand, said: “Consumers are becoming increasingly confortable shopping on phones.”

Mobile sales may grow even more today in the UK, as Brit e-shoppers are expected to spend an impressive £605 million this Cyber Monday.
