Buys the developer of GodFinger, but not the game itself.
Social games giant Zynga has bought UK mobile developer Wonderland Software, and immediately rebranded it as Zynga Mobile UK - the first time Zynga has owned a studio in the UK.
The acquisition was for an undisclosed amount, and while it includes the developer's staff and 'select IP', it excludes iOS social game GodFinger (pictured), which was published by ngmoco.
Wonderland CEO Matthew Wiggins becomes general manager of Zynga Mobile UK, reporting directly into the company's mobile boss David Ko. The new studio will be focusing on developing new social mobile games for Zynga.
"Wonderland is composed of an amazingly talented, creative team, known for developing deeply engaging and innovative games," said Ko in a statement. "This is a team that has developed novel game technology to tell engrossing stories and I’m incredibly excited to have Wonderland join Zynga as we build a presence in the UK."
The deal is part of a wider feeding frenzy for talented mobile games developers with social chops, with Zynga and rival DeNA both in the hunt to bolster their development portfolios.
