Zynga buys Wild Needle Games

Makes the bid to nab 'female-focused' staff.

Social games giant Zynga has washed down its recent $180 million buyout of Draw Something maker OMGPOP with the acquisition of mobile games startup Wild Needle, according to TechCrunch.

Wild Needle was launched in late 2010 by Playdom co-founder Rick Thompson who sought to provide female gamers with a series of casual freemium games.

However, while Playdom was scooped up by Disney for over $700 million, Wild Needle's games have failed to set the App Store charts alight and Zynga is said to have bought the latter to snap up fresh talent as opposed to a burgeoning user base.

Zynga recently warned that it planned to make more OMGPOP-sized buyouts with its $1.8 billion cash pile, so this latest purchase seems to be the calm before the storm.
