15th acquisition in 13 months for social games publisher as it prepares for IPO.
Social games giant Zynga has announced its latest acquisition of a mobile studio. Canadian developer Five Mobile Team has been bought for an undisclosed amount, and will now be rebranded as Zynga Toronto.
Zynga is staying vague on its plans for the studio, other than saying in a blog post that it "will focus on advancing multiple initiatives within Zynga Mobile", and that the deal includes the Five Mobile team as well as "certain assets and Intellectual Property".
Co-founder Ameet Shah will head up the studio under Zynga's auspices, with co-founders Jeff Zakrzewski, Oliver Tabay and Troy Hubman all remaining in place too.
Five Mobile's most recent app as an independent studio was ScoreMobile for BlackBerry PlayBook, developed for another company, Score Media Ventures.
Zynga says it's the company's 15th acquisition in 13 months, with a number of those deals being for mobile studios, as it ramps up its efforts beyond Facebook.
