The iPod killer has been killed.
Microsoft has finally given up on its Zune media player, say Bloomberg.
The story says that Microsoft will continue to sell existing versions of the Zune, but will not introduce new ones.
Don't all rush at once.
A quiet end, then, for the device first unveiled in 2006 and never actually made available in Europe.
Its socially-oriented streaming concept was quite well-regarded, as was its software, but the hardware form factor was ho-hum, and the public rejected it.

Now, unsurprisingly, the software will be integrated into WP7 and the Xbox.
