ZenNews launches 'news analysis' iPhone app

Turning breaking stories into a global tag cloud.

Zensify is the latest company to find a new way to deliver the news within an iPhone app.

Its ZenNews has just gone live on the App Store, aggregating news from a range of sources, including the BBC, CNN, Guardian, LA Times, Sky News and Washington Post.

However, it also works in TweetMeme, allowing it to factor in the stories that are most actively being linked to by Twitter users.

Zensify's 'smart analytics' algorithms then take all this data and turn it into a visual tag cloud of currently hot topics around the world, which users can then tap through to read key stories.

"ZenNews combines artificial intelligence techniques with a beautiful and easy-to-understand Tag Cloud to create an application that goes far beyond simple news aggregation," says CTO Tom Campbell.

"It's like having a news analyst in your phone."

The free app is certainly an interesting spin on delivering news to iPhone users - you can file it alongside the recently launched Broadersheet, which takes a more personalised approach by learning the preferences of individual users.
