Hunter Walk reveals 2,000% increase thanks to latest generation of smartphones.
Mobile uploads to YouTube have increased by 2,000% this year, according to director of product management Hunter Walk.
Speaking at the NewTeeVee conference in San Francisco, Walk said the growth was down to the new generation of YouTube-friendly smartphones.
"Everyone is going to have a camera in their pocket at all times," he said. "Every time a new device rolls out like the iPhone 3GS, we see a new spike in mobile uploads."
Meanwhile, changes being planned to the way YouTube presents videos to users may have particular benefits for mobile users of the service.
"I don’t think the future is many channels. I think the future is just one channel - it’s a personalised experience," said Walk. That means better recommendations of videos a user might like to back up the site's search function.

Given the limited screen size and snacking usage on mobile, such personalisation would be a big benefit for mobile YouTube users.
