A huge number of cats falling off wardrobes.

Network management vendor Allot Communications says the Google-owned video site now accounts for nearly a quarter of the mobile data consumed worldwide in Q1 2011.

And it's growing prodigiously: it consumed 17 per cent in the first half of 2010. Overall, video streaming now accounts for 39 per cent of all mobile traffic, with YouTube consuming 52 per cent of this.

File sharing is second behind video in the mobile data traffic 'chart' with 29 per cent, and web browsing accounts for 25 per cent.

VoIP and IM traffic grew 101 per cent in 1H 2011, but they still only represent a total of 4 per cent of all mobile traffic.
