Yahoo believes there will be more people using the net from a mobile than a PC in ten years.
The company says the lack of landline and broadband infrastructure in developing countries could be the decisive factor in the switch. Geraldine Wilson, vice president of connected life at Yahoo Europe, said: "In emerging markets most people's first contact with the Internet will be with a mobile phone.”While conceding that data costs need to be reduced, UI improved and network connections speeded up, she concluded that 2007 will be remembered as the year “things started to happen.”
It was certainly the year that Yahoo got serious about mobile, launching the Yahoo Go family of search apps, the oneSearch ‘quick answers’ app, winning the deal to run mobile advertising for Vodafone and closing a number of search deals with operators in Latin America and Asia.
