Yahoo! is placing its new oneSearch tool at the centre of the updated Go for Mobile 2.0 application suite.
OneSearch is essentially a context-aware mobile search engine designed only to return results Yahoo! thinks will be relevant to users while they are on the move. For example, Yahoo! says that if a consumer wants to enquire about the outcome of a specific sporting event, the search results would first list the final score of the most recent game and information on the next scheduled game, then additional content including a team profile and roster, official web site, sports photos and related news etc. To dig more deeply into the results, users can click on any item or category.
OneSearch also offers PC-based search functionality, such as remembering previous queries and auto-fill to speed up the entry of common terms.
Marco Boerries, SVP of connected life at Yahoo!, said: "oneSearch changes the mobile search game by fundamentally improving the way consumers' access and use the Internet on their mobile phones. It delivers a mobile-optimised search experience that understands what consumers are looking for and presents answers directly in the results -- not just a list of Web links to PC sites."
OneSearch is available as part of the wider Yahoo! Go for Mobile 2.0 app, which was unveiled yesterday one year after the original product was launched to a mixed reception.
