Wragg departs EMI

EMI’s face of mobile Barney Wragg has left the company as a result of its radical re-organisation.

Digital Music News has reported that Wragg, worldwide head of digital, is one of nearly 2,000 execs to have exited. However, it's been suggested that Wragg wasn't pushed, but left as a result of disagreement with future strategy.

The EMI layoffs are happening over six months as the UK record company, now owned by private equity group Terra Firma, seeks to slim itself down in the face of changing market conditions.

Wragg is certainly a high profile departure. He is arguably one of the world's half-dozen execs most closely associated with mobile music and apparently had a good relationship with Terra Firma boss Guy Hands. He was also instrumental in making EMI the first label to move DRM-free. This was unthinkable at one time, but now all labels have embraced the idea.
