Women send more 'I love you' texts than men

While almost a third of Brits enjoy flirting via the medium.

For those of you that are unaware, today is Valentine's Day. This has led mobile messaging firm Acision to investigate how texts can affect romance.

The report says 49 per cent of UK mobile phone users have sent 'I love you' messages, with 53 per cent of women declaring their feelings, compared to 44 per cent of men.

Further results show 60 per cent of those aged 18-25 and 61 per cent of 26-34 year olds are the most soppy, choosing to send messages of love. Meanwhile, 46 per cent of the two age groups admit to flirting via SMS, while 31 per cent of all groups enjoy text flirting.

Additionally, while the 18-25 year old group appears eager to steal hearts, it's also the most likely to dump somebody via text with 18 per cent having done so in the past.

45 per cent of MMS users say they have done so for special occasions, but would use the platform more if it was cheaper.

Steven Van Zanen, SVP marketing & strategy of Acision, says: "The nation’s passion for mobile technologies certainly seems to be paving the way for passionate communications with our loved ones.

"20 years ago a Valentine's Day card and a bunch of red roses was the most appropriate way to say ‘I love you,’ however today it seems messaging is just as acceptable. It is, after all, the message, not the method that counts and the reliability, ubiquity, simplicity, affordability and instantaneous nature of SMS has cemented its popular appeal amongst lovers for showing just how we feel."
