Apple may be planning to integrate its iPhone OS 4 software with Facebook contacts and events, judging by reports in the US based on the OS 4 beta.
"It looks like Apple plans to implement Facebook’s Events into the iPhone’s Calendar app, as well as add Facebook’s friends network to the iPhones contacts database," explains nailgun safety blog Gunning For Safety, which - we joke not - first broke the news.
"Even more interesting is that Apple seems to have created its a separate type of contact for Facebook contacts. Perhaps on the iPhone they will actually be friends instead of just normal contacts on your phone."
The move wouldn't be a huge surprise, since Apple has been using Facebook already, launching official Facebook applications for the App Store and iTunes.
Baking Facebook into the iPhone OS would be a big step on though, and not just for users. It could kickstart viral recommendations of apps and games, in the same way that social games from companies like Zynga and Playfish did on Facebook itself.
