Builds on existing PC-based partnership.
Games discovery and monetisation platform WildTangent is pre-installed on more than 100m smartphones, tablets, and PCs, and offers developers, operators and OEMs the means to engage with consumers.
The 1998-launched company has now teamed with Sony Mobile to integrate its portal into Xperia smartphones and tablets, which follows an existing European partnership across VAIO PCs and the S and P tablets.
The deal means Xperia users will gain access to a variety of new games that can be bought, rented, or played for free. Meanwhile, those that register to the platform will receive free WildCoins – WildTangent's digital currency – to pay for titles and in-app purchases.
Sean Vanderdasson, senior VP at WildTangent, said: "Sony knows gamers better than anyone and this partnership marks a significant new chapter for us. Our games will now be available to a huge number of people on premium Sony devices.
"We’ve been carefully testing our Android service with users and the feedback has been incredible. People don’t want to spend the time downloading individual games. They want to play when they have free moments throughout the day."
In related news, Sony recently teamed with online kids channel Toon Goggles to develop an exclusive app for the Xperia smartphone line, suggesting the firm is planning a big mobile entertainment push.
