Peter Gabriel among the backers of cloud-based music firm.
we7 is a Pandora-like service that lets users stream songs and create bespoke personal radio stations from a library of over 7m songs, online and mobile. It currently has over 3m unique monthly users in the UK.
Along with Gabriel, Eden Ventures, Pantech and Qualcomm Incorporated have chipped in to give we7 the funds to grow its existing team and expand into multiple countries in Europe during 2011.
Steve Purdham, we7's CEO, said: "In the next 24 months digital music listening will move rapidly from the early adopters and music obsessives we have seen to date, into the mass market and general music listening communities.
"This change represents an outstanding global opportunity to create a highly valued business for consumers, the music industry and we7."
