WeComm says new tech will vastly improve both content streaming and application performance
A new application called Wave3 claims to provide a ‘fundamentally new way’ of delivering and accessing mobile content – by changing the way networks stream feature-rich applications and content to deliver high quality interactive media to mobiles.Wave3 constantly monitors the available network resource and optimises transmission and content accordingly, whether the connection is GPRS, 3G or wi-fi.
Ian Meakin, WeComm’s VP of marketing and alliances, stated: “We want our customers to offer highly interactive mobile experiences that extend the digital ones that consumers are already familiar with on their PC, TV and PMPs, but with an economic model that makes the business case work for mobile application providers.
“Current mobile technologies are either too inefficient or too limiting – we’ve overcome the challenge from a completely different angle.”
Tony Cripps, principal analyst at Ovum added: “For high-end applications like converged media experiences or transactional applications, platforms that combine the user experience of native applications with the universal access of the browser paradigm provide significant advantages to mobile network operators, handset manufacturers and content providers.”
