Wapple launches developer program

Veteran specialist ships out new toolkit; wants to make its mobile site building platform the first choice of brands and agencies.

UK company Wapple has been around since 2004, simultaneously offering technologies to help developers create their own mobile presence while also serving as an agency for brands that need development support themselves.

It currently has tens of thousands of customers – from small web developers to major brands such as Pantene, Fabreze, MTV, Comic Relief and more.

The new developer program will provide access to community tutorials, forums, videos and case-studies for the Wapple suite of technology products; Canvas (makes mobile websites), Architect (converts websites to mobile sites) and Exhibit (optimises content/sites for all mobile devices).

The toolkit launch is one of a raft of measures conceived by Wapple to raise its profile in 2011.

The firm recently received fresh funding (and hired a new CEO, Simon Lavers) and believes that a tipping point has been reached in mobile web usage.

It says more than 85 per cent of the world's handsets now able to access the mobile web, and that up to ten per cent of brands' web traffic is coming from mobile devices.

Anne Thomas, Wapple co-founder and COO, said: “In 2004, long before Google, Microsoft and Apple made massive plays into mobile, we predicted a time when every business would have to be ready for this entirely new media.

"That time is now and the huge demand for true mobile expertise is imminent."
