There's a website for that...
People don't just tweet about their lunch, their cats and their thoughts on who should win The X Factor. Really. Sometimes they tweet about iPhone apps too.
AppStoreHQ has launched a new chart tracking the hottest iPhone apps on Twitter. It's using an algorithm modelled on music blogs aggregator The Hype Machine.
So, AppStoreHQ roots out tweets leading to an App Store URL, and assigns scores to each based on the number of followers and friends the tweeter has. Then it adds them all up, and compiles the data into a hotness chart.
Fun, but also useful, tracking which apps really are causing a buzz among the Twitterati. Right now, this is the top 10:
1. Chorus
2. Waveboard
3. Eliminate Pro
4. Command & Conquer: Red Alert
5. Virgin Atlantic's Flying Without Fear
6. Learn Adobe Creative Suite with Terry White
7. Le Petit Dummy
8. Smart.fm
9. World War - 50 Honor Points
10. Drum Kit: As Seen on TV!

Some curveballs in there, which is what makes it valuable reading. Who knew Terry White was so popular?
But the fact that Chorus - itself an app about recommending cool iPhone apps - is top shows the demand among iPhone users for this kind of information.
