Tying social and location elements together.
Vodafone 360 will link location based services with users' personal contacts, judging by a demo shown tonight by the operator's Patrick Weissert at the Mobile Monday event in London.
He showed how the Maps application works on the launch 360 handset, zooming out on a map of London to show those of his personal contacts who had chosen to share their location. It was very reminiscent of Google Latitude, except tied into the phone's address book.
“We think of location in three different ways,” said Weissert. “First are the location services which we develop ourselves and which feature on the device. Second is location as a feature within the other apps that pop up on the device. And the third is location as something we expose as a platform to developers who make apps for our device.”
Weissert also showed Vodafone 360's 'Location Nudge' feature, which allows users to ping contacts with their current location.
