Vodafone's Wayfinder bid gets green light

Acquisition of Swedish location-based services specialist receives shareholder approval.

Vodafone has confirmed that its cash offer for all shares in Wayfinder Systems has been accepted by shareholders holding 16,295,612 shares in the Swedish company.

The operator made its 239 million Swedish kronor cash move for Wayfinder back in December, with Pieter Knook, Vodafone's director of internet services, saying the deal would enable Vodafone to give its customers LBS technology on their handsets.

In addition, Vodafone has acquired 3,266,420 shares in Wayfinder through the market and in private transactions, representing approximately 16.39 per cent of the total number of shares and votes in the company.

In total, Vodafone will hold 19,562,032 Wayfinder shares, representing approximately 98.13 per cent of the total.

The deal is due to be completed officially by January 30th.
