Vodafone launches real-time Twitter music chart

Patrick Swayze reigns supreme as top-tweeted track by UK users.

Vodafone has launched a Real-Time Top 40 music chart, tracking the tunes that UK music fans are buzzing about on Twitter.

People vote for their favourite tracks by tweeting the artist and title, along with the hashtag #RealTimeTop40. The operator promises votes will filter into its chart within minutes.

Patrick Swayze's 'She's Like The Wind' is sitting proudly atop the chart right now, followed by songs from the Filthy Dukes, Jay-Z, Queen and Pink.

What's in this for Vodafone? The chart is promoting its Vodafone Music Store, with prominent Buy buttons taking users through to the operator's music site.

It's a neat piece of social media promotion, although the modernity of using Twitter is slightly offset by the fact that Vodafone's music site only works on the Internet Explorer browser.
