For BlackBerry and high-end Java phones only.
Vodafone is launching an official Formula 1 Live Timing application for BlackBerry and high-end Java phones, in time for this weekend's opening race of the season in Bahrain.
The app will give F1 fans live access to lap times, straight-line speed data, track status, pit and lap counts and weather/atmospheric conditions from every session of every Grand Prix this season.
The app will be free to download, although CrackBerry claims that users will have to register (for free) to continue using it after the first race.
There's no news on whether an iPhone version will be released alongside the BlackBerry and Java apps. It would be surprising if not.
That said, there's already an unofficial app available for iPhone that aims to do a similar job, developed by Genera Mobile.

We suspect its use of the Formula 1 name may be prompting a stern letter from the F1 authorities sooner rather than later.
