Vodafone data up 25 per cent

Third quarter results boosted by the mobile web, BlackBerry Storm and exchange rates.

Vodafone generated revenue of £786 million from mobile data services (excluding messaging) in its fiscal 3Q ending December 31st, up 25.3 per cent from 3Q07.

That figure is equivalent to 8.1 per cent of total group service revenue.

Data as a percentage of the Vodafone business varies between opcos, with the UK coming in at 10 per cent, Spain at 7.7 per cent, Germany at 10.9 per cent and Italy at 7.7 per cent.

Vodafone's total global customer base (inc affiliates) was 289 million at the end of calendar 2008, up 9.5 million in the quarter.

Financially, the company beat its Q3 forecasts, with revenue up 14.3 per cent at £10.47 billion. The growth came, the company said, came from favourable foreign exchange movements, cost savings and bouyant customer usage.

For the full-year ending March 31st, Vodafone has revised its revenue forecast upwards to £40.6 to £41.5 billion pounds, from £38.8 to £39.7 billion pounds previously.
