Mobile wallet service pitched at 398m customers in 30 countries.
After so much talk, the mobile money and payments services are coming thick and fast now.
This project will be based on the Visa pre-paid account, and will initially launch in Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Turkey, and the UK this financial year, before rolling out elsewhere.
It will be open to partners in all manner of verticals including financial institutions, retailers, transport and utility companies – which can host their services within the new Vodafone mobile wallet.
Services will be based on NFC, which begs the usual questions around which handsets will support it.
At present there are virtually none, but one can assume that Vodafone is working on own-brand devices supporting NFC compatibility in the SIM.
Visa, of course, is already hard at work on NFC thanks to a well-publicised tie-up with Samsung.
