South African operator Vodacom has launched a mobile advertising programme called On-The-Line.
It offers advertisers a choice of targeted and personalised channels such as WAP sites, MMS, SMS and more. Banner ads will be sold on Vodacom's mobile internet portals, which attract 1.4 million users a month. Text adverts will sell via Please Call Me, Vodacom’s free call-back service.Vodacom has been running trial advertising for a number of months with Nike that has generated 84,000 content downloads and 9,200 survey responses. It established a dedicated mobile advertising business unit in April.
Vodacom has around 25 million subscribers and 50 per cent of the South African mobile market.
