Technology enables consumers to move mobile payment information between handsets

Visa Europe, Telefónica O2 and Giesecke & Devrient (G&D) have unveiled a SIM card that will allow transfer of a payment application from one mobile handset to another.

The partners say their Smart Card Web Server (SCWS) SIM card technology will allow users to store all relevant payment and security credentials, as well as the user interface, in one place.

It differs from Java application or localised software implementations of UI by using standard internet technology such as HTML or HTTPS secure connections.

In order to present the content, the SCWS on the SIM connects to the internet browser of the mobile phone and offers what the partners call 'the same look and feel as experienced on the internet'.

Of course Visa Europe, Telefónica O2 and Giesecke & Devrient now need to strike deal to ensure that SCWS technology is embedded in handsets.
