Visa confirms iPhone NFC service

In2Pay accessory enables contactless payments via Apple device.

The news was actually reported two weeks ago after a press release was posted but then quickly withdrawns. Now, the announcement has been made official.

Visa has partnered with DeviceFidelity to build a case that plugs into the bottom of the iPhone via the dock connector.

This peripheral has a slot for an SD card which contains the contactless NFC chip that will enable Visa payments (once the payment app has been downloaded from the App Store).

The software unlocks the card for use whenever the user punches in their password.

The news is pretty significant, and there's a sense that a bandwagon has begun in the area of low-value mobile payments.
