Vimeo ramps up support for mobile video

YouTube rival letting its premium users upload mobile-friendly videos.

Online video site Vimeo has launched new mobile features for its Vimeo Plus premium users.

Those paying the $60-a-year subscription fee will now be able to make their video uploads viewable on smartphones, including the iPhone.

According to VentureBeat, the new feature builds on Vimeo's launch last year of two channels on its mobile site for Staff Picks and HD Showcase. However, it hasn't converted its whole catalogue into iPhone-friendly formats.

Now it seems this conversion is being offered as an incentive for members to upgrade to the Vimeo Plus subscription.

Vimeo is also working on its own iPhone app for people to browse and watch its catalogue of mobile videos.
