Mobile web access, messaging and the BlackBerry Storm push usage to new highs.

Mobile data revenues at US operator Verizon Wireless hit $10.7 billion in FY08, up 44 per cent over 2007.

The company said the launch of devices such as the much-trumpeted BlackBerry Storm sent data revenue up 14 per cent in Q4 alone.

In fact, 4Q data revenues were 26.8 per cent of all service revenues, up from 21.3 per cent in the 4Q07.

Verizon Wireless added that more than 65 per cent of its retail customers had 3G broadband-capable devices by year-end.

Overall, the operator added 5.8 million organic net new retail customers in 2008. At the end of Q4 it had 72.1 million customers in total.
