US operator claims trials show its network is achieving 12Mbps average download speeds
Verizon Wireless has revealed results of its 4G LTE trials in Boston and Seattle, namely that it is achieving 5-12Mbps average download rates and 2-5Mbps for uploads on a 'real world' connection (i.e. on a populated urban network).
The operator says that, in theory, its 4G network is capable of peak download speeds of 40-50Mbps and upload speeds of 20-25Mbps, though in practice those speeds are unlikely to be available to end-users.
Verizon has been testing its 4G LTE network in both Boston and Seattle since August last year.
The operator says it is on track to roll out 4G service in 25-30 markets covering roughly 100 million people by the end of 2010.
