Word on the street is that the device will ship early next year
Reuters reports that Taiwan-based Pegatron has won a contract to manufacture an iPhone compatible with the CDMA network standard.
To date Apple has only supported the GSM family of network protocols (EDGE, UMTS, HSDPA).
News of the manufacturing deal followed earlier speculation in the Wall Street Journal that a CDMA flavour of the device is destined for Verizon Wireless in the US and could ship in 2011.
Pegatron is a subsidiary of Taiwan computing giant Asustek.
