Verizon launches Droid 2 - and special Star Wars version

Limited-edition R2D2 version available online from September

Verizon Wireless will begin to take pre-orders of the Motorola Droid 2 today, and will be offering a limited edition Star Wars version of the device from September.

The Android 2.2-powered Droid 2 offers a full qwerty keyboard, 5 megapixel camera, w-fi, 8GB of memory and a multi-touch 3.7-inch display.

And in a nod to the Droid name there will be a limited edition R2-D2 version of the handset available online-only during September, offering Star Wars content and a specially-designed casing.

Verizon is selling the regular Droid 2 for $199.99 after a $100 rebate on a two-year contract.
