US operator latest to choke on all-you-can-eat.
Like many of its European counterparts and some of its compatriots (not least AT&T), Verizon has woken up to the commercial risk inherent in unlimited data plans.
Fact is, most users use a modest amount of data while a few heavy users hammer the network.
The new wave of caps are designed to restrain the activities of the latter.
Thus, new Verizon customers will be able to get 2GB of data per month for $30, 5GB for $50 or 10GB for $80. At present unlimited data is $30 per month.
Prices are the same for 3G and LTE data service, and customers can get an extra 2GB a month for $20 to share the data service with a phone or other wi-fi device.
