Verizon branded app store imminent

US carrier's VCast Application Store will be on Blackberry soon.

Verizon first announced its application store intentions last July, and has confirmed at CES that it is nearly ready to roll out. It claims 3,500 developers are registered into its programme.

After an initial Blackberry period, the app store will hit Windows Mobile devices in the "middle of the year".

It's another example of operators trying to claw back some momentum in apps - and an interesting move by Verizon, given that (arguably) the firm paved the way for apps with its BREW content platform in the early part of the noughties.
