Ustream takes $75m funding following iPhone success

Livestreaming startup plans to expand into Asia.

Livestreaming firm Ustream has announced a whopping $75 million funding round, led by Japanese mobile operator SoftBank.

The company plans to spend the cash on expanding into Asia - not just Japan, but China, South Korea and India too, according to TechCrunch.

Ustream's technology helps people to run their own live webcasts, broadcasting from their webcams or mobile phones. It also works with bands to run gigcasts with social features around them.

Its iPhone apps have been downloaded more than 1.5 million times so far, with Ustream having been the first company to launch a livecasting app on the App Store.

TechCrunch also suggests that Ustream may be planning to raise even more money as part of its current round from other investors.
