Over a third of ‘tweens’ in the US are using smartphones to do their homework.
It seems that the practicality of smartphones knows no bounds these days, after it was revealed that over a third of young teens in the US use their smartphones to do homework.
According to a new survey by research group TRU, a growing number of US ‘tweens’ are using their mobile for doing homework, with Hispanic students using them at a higher rate than African-American or white students.
"These middle school students are using mobile devices for more than entertainment purposes," said Kristi Sarmiento, research director at TRU. "They have grown up with this technology."
39 per cent of 11-14 year-olds make use of their smartphones at home for schoolwork, while 31 per cent or those surveyed said that they use a tablet.
The online poll of 1,000 students indicated that smartphone usage increased with age, increasing from 42 per cent for sixth graders to 57 per cent for eighth graders. Of the Hispanic students surveyed, 49 per cent used smartphones for schoolwork, along with 42 per cent of African-American students and 36 per cent of white students.
Meanwhile, tablets were used by 38 per cent of Hispanics, 30 per cent of African-Americans and 31 per cent of whites.
