Still only seven per cent of all e-commerce though.
A Forrester Research report says mobile commerce will grow by 40 per cent over the next five years, but it doesn't include tablets in the projection.
In fact, it sees tablets as an inhibitor as many smartphone owners will prefer to make payments using the larger form device.
It contends that when consumers do use their phones to shop, it will be to research the market and then conclude the purchase on a PC.
This ability to gather retail intelligence will force retailers to smarten up their collective act.
“Mobile commerce will transform retail, both because the transparency of pricing will force big box stores to be much better merchants or die, and because store associates armed with mobile devices can now do everything from save lost sales, to carry a POS device in their hand,” said Forrester analyst Sucharita Mulpuru.
