Up to 40,000 iphones sold in UK

Reports suggest between 20,000 and 40,000 iPhones were sold in the UK over the weekend.

Denying sales were slow, O2 said the device was actually its "fastest selling” ever and remains was on target to hit 200,000 customers by Christmas. It also claimed two-thirds of iPhone subscribers are coming from other networks. Meanwhile T-Mobile in Germany said it sold 10,000 phones by the end of Saturday afternoon.

The iPhone went on sale in Friday in the UK via Apple, O2 and Carphone Warehouse stores
