Muve service looks to make Comes With Music-style model a success Stateside.

US mobile operator Cricket is set to launch an unlimited downloads music service early next year.

Muve Music is similar to Nokia's Comes With Music, although initially it will only work on one handset: Samsung's Suede.

Users paying $55 for a monthly tariff will get unlimited downloads, as well as voice calls, texts and data.

The music service is run by Wilshire Media Group, and includes playlist, ringtone-creation and social features.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Cricket will pay music labels and publishers a set fee per subscriber every month, divided according to the popularity of their catalogues.

Cricket has 4.5 million customers, making it one of the smaller US operators. This may be the point for the music rightsholders: it gives them a chance to see how well the unlimited mobile downloads model works, before trying it with one of the larger telcos.
