Universal Music Group launches Rock Guru iPhone game

Quiz game using in-app payments.

Record label Universal Music Group has launched its latest iPhone game, Rock Guru.

It's not based on an individual artist though. Instead, it's a music trivia game, offering 1,000 questions with text, album art and audio clips.

The game costs $1.99 on the App Store, but players can pay $0.99 for additional packs of 500 questions, via in-app payments.

Rock Guru uses ngmoco's Plus+ social community for friend lists, high-score tables and integration with Facebook and Twitter.

It's UMG's latest iPhone app that's not based on an artist, following chart-focused app TimeWheel and music rhythm game Six-String.

Besides providing a potential new revenue stream for the label, such apps allow UMG to promote its roster of new and catalogue artists.

Update: Rock Guru has been removed from the App Store, as it was not meant to go live yet. ME will keep you posted on the game's official release date.
